Chain Referencing Your Bible

The following is a simple and fun way to overcome the weakness of locating scripture and explaining our beliefs to others.  While my wife and I were at the Feast of Tabernacles in Colorado Springs with the Western Regional Church of God (Albuquerque, NM) we attended a bible study led by the Pastor of this church and he taught us a unique way to chain reference a particular subject in the bible.

Below is the subject of the Redemption using the methods of chain referencing he taught us.

Redeemed

Definition

Definition of Redemption H1350  gâ'al  gaw-al'

A primitive root, to redeem (according to the Oriental law of kinship), that is, to be the next of kin (and as such to buy back a relative’s property, marry his widow, etc.): - X in any wise, X at all, avenger, deliver, (do, perform the part of near, next) kinsfolk (-man), purchase, ransom, redeem (-er), revenger.

The First Covenant

Gen 2:15-17

And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. (16) And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: (17) But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

The First Covenant Broken

Gen 3:11-12

And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? (12) And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

Penalty of breaking the first covenant for Adam and all man

Gen 3:17-19 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; (18) Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; (19) In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.  (Adam would die)

Penalty of breaking the first covenant for Eve and all women

Gen 3:16

Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

What was the Ultimate penalty of breaking the covenant?

Gen 2:17

But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Note:  Adam forfeited his inheritance and therefore the inheritance of all his offspring was forfeited.  The inheritance was eternal life and the dominion of the earth.

What was Man's Inheritance? Gen 1:26-28 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion [rule] over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. (27) So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. (28) And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish [fill] the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

To whom was the death penalty passed on from Adam?

1Co 15:22

For as in Adam all die

Was the breaking of the covenant by Adam a sin and worthy of death?

Rom 5:12-21

Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (13) (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. (14) Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. (15) But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. (16) And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. (17) For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) (18) Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. (19) For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. (20) Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: (21) That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

Henry Morris (Commentator) on Romans 5:11-21

Just as Adam was the head of a race of sinners, so Christ is the head of a new race, the redeemed people of God.

Job 31:33, 40

If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom:...Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.

 Hos 6:7

But they like men [like Adam] have transgressed the covenant: there have they dealt treacherously against me.

like menH120

Definition men:  H120   'âdâm  aw-dawm'

From H119; ruddy, that is, a human being (an individual or the species, mankind, etc.): - X another, + hypocrite, + common sort, X low, man (mean, of low degree), person.

Definition Adam:  H121   'âdâm  aw-dawm'  The same as H120; Adam, the name of the first man, also of a place in Palestine: - Adam.

Hosea 6:7 should be rendered:  But they like Adam have transgressed the covenant: there have they dealt treacherously against me.

Adam was not deceived 1Ti 2:14

And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.

The first promise of Redemption

Gen 3:13-15

And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. (14) And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: (15) And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

  Genesis 48:16

The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.

Redeemed Inheritance

Redeemed H1350     גּאל  gâ'al  gaw-al'

NoteThe Messenger, the Redeemer or Kinsman; for so גאל goel signifies; for this term, in the law of Moses, is applied to that person whose right it is, from his being nearest akin, to redeem or purchase back a forfeited inheritance.  See definition above

Note:  Adam forfeited his inheritance and therefore the inheritance of all his offspring is also forfeited

God remembers his covenant and takes Israel for his people and redeems them from the Egyptians

Exo 6:5-7

And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage; and I have remembered my covenant. (6) Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments: (7) And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God: and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.

2Sa 7:23-24

And what one nation in the earth is like thy people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem for a people to himself, and to make him a name, and to do for you great things and terrible, for thy land, before thy people, which thou redeemedst to thee from Egypt, from the nations and their gods? For thou hast confirmed to thyself thy people Israel to be a people unto thee for ever: and thou, LORD, art become their God.

 Firstborn belongs to God

Exo 13:2 Sanctify [set apart, consecrate, dedicate] unto me all the firstborn, whatsoever openeth the womb among the children of Israel, both of man and of beast: it is mine.

The Sabbaths are a sign to remind God's people of the covenant between them

Eze 20:10-12 Wherefore I caused them to go forth out of the land of Egypt, and brought them into the wilderness. (11) And I gave them my statutes, and shewed them my judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them. (12) Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign [Sabbath a sign of the agreement between us, to remind them] between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them.

Note: sabbaths is plural meaning both the weekly Sabbath and the annual Sabbaths

God purchases (redeems) Israel from Egypt by slaying all the firstborn of man and beast in Egypt

Exo 13:12-15 That thou shalt set apart unto the LORD all that openeth the matrix, and every firstling that cometh of a beast which thou hast; the males shall be the LORD'S. (13) And every firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a lamb; and if thou wilt not redeem it, then thou shalt break his neck: and all the firstborn of man among thy children shalt thou redeem. (14) And it shall be when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What is this? that thou shalt say unto him, By strength of hand the LORD brought us out from Egypt, from the house of bondage: (15) And it came to pass, when Pharaoh would hardly let us go, that the LORD slew all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man, and the firstborn of beast: therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all that openeth the matrix, being males; but all the firstborn of my children I redeem.

Note:  All the firstborn males of man and beast in all the world belong to God

For all the firstborn of the children of Israel are mine, both man and beast: on the day that I smote every firstborn in the land of Egypt I sanctified them for myself.
(Num 8:17)
Covenant Proposal Exodus 19:3-6 And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel; 4 Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself. 5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: 6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.
Covenant Accepted Exodus 19:8-9 And all the people answered together, and said, All that the LORD hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the LORD. And the LORD said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto the LORD.

1Co_6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
1Co_7:23 Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.

Price of Redemption for firstborn

Num_18:15-16 Every thing that openeth the matrix in all flesh, which they bring unto the LORD, [whether it be] of men or beasts, shall be thine: nevertheless the firstborn of man shalt thou surely redeem, and the firstling of unclean beasts shalt thou redeem. (16) And those that are to be redeemed from a month old shalt thou redeem, according to thine estimation, for the money of five shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, which [is] twenty gerahs.

God creates Jacob

God formed  Israel

God Redeems Israel

God Gave Egypt, Ethiopia and Seba as a ransom for Israel

God gives men and people for Israel's life

God Redeems everyone called by His name

We are to be God's servants whom he chooses

Isa 43:1-11 But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. (2) When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. (3) For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee. (4) Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life. (5) Fear not: for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west; (6) I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth; (7) Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him. (8) Bring forth the blind people that have eyes, and the deaf that have ears. (9) Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled: who among them can declare this, and shew us former things? let them bring forth their witnesses, that they may be justified: or let them hear, and say, It is truth. (10) Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. (11) I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.

 Israel is God's Inheritance

Isa 19:22-25 KJV And the LORD shall smite Egypt: he shall smite and heal [it]: and they shall return [even] to the LORD, and he shall be intreated of them, and shall heal them. (23) In that day shall there be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians shall serve with the Assyrians. (24) In that day shall Israel be the third with Egypt and with Assyria, [even] a blessing in the midst of the land: (25) Whom the LORD of hosts shall bless, saying, Blessed [be] Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel mine inheritance.

Levites taken instead of all the firstborn

Now the Levites shall belong to God to minister unto Him

The numbering of the Levite males from one month old and upward

Numbers 3:6-15  Bring the tribe of Levi near, and present them before Aaron the priest, that they may minister unto him.  (7)  And they shall keep his charge, and the charge of the whole congregation before the tabernacle of the congregation, to do the service of the tabernacle.  (8)  And they shall keep all the instruments of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the children of Israel, to do the service of the tabernacle.  (9)  And thou shalt give the Levites unto Aaron and to his sons: they [are] wholly given unto him out of the children of Israel.  (10)  And thou shalt appoint Aaron and his sons, and they shall wait on their priest's office: and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.  (11)  And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,  (12)  And I, behold, I have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel instead of all the firstborn that openeth the matrix among the children of Israel: therefore the Levites shall be mine;  (13)  Because all the firstborn [are] mine; [for] on the day that I smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt I hallowed unto me all the firstborn in Israel, both man and beast: mine shall they be: I [am] the LORD.  (14)  And the LORD spake unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying,  (15)  Number the children of Levi after the house of their fathers, by their families: every male from a month old and upward shalt thou number them.

 22,000 male Levites

Command to number all the firstborn males in Israel from one month old and upward

22,273 Firstborn males in Israel

Command to take the Levite males instead of the firstborn males

The difference of 273 males is to be redeemed with money

Numbers 3:39-51  All that were numbered of the Levites, which Moses and Aaron numbered at the commandment of the LORD, throughout their families, all the males from a month old and upward, [were] twenty and two thousand (40)  And the LORD said unto Moses, Number all the firstborn of the males of the children of Israel from a month old and upward, and take the number of their names.  (41)  And thou shalt take the Levites for me (I [am] the LORD) instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel; and the cattle of the Levites instead of all the firstlings among the cattle of the children of Israel.  (42)  And Moses numbered, as the LORD commanded him, all the firstborn among the children of Israel.  (43)  And all the firstborn males by the number of names, from a month old and upward, of those that were numbered of them, were twenty and two thousand two hundred and threescore and thirteen. [22,273] (44)  And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,  (45)  Take the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of their cattle; and the Levites shall be mine: I [am] the LORD.  (46)  And for those that are to be redeemed of the two hundred and threescore and thirteen [273] of the firstborn of the children of Israel, which are more than the Levites;  (47)  Thou shalt even take five shekels apiece by the poll, after the shekel of the sanctuary shalt thou take [them]:  (the shekel [is] twenty gerahs:)  (48)  And thou shalt give the money, wherewith the odd number of them is to be redeemed, unto Aaron and to his sons.  (49)  And Moses took the redemption money of them that were over and above them that were redeemed by the Levites:  (50)  Of the firstborn of the children of Israel took he the money; a thousand three hundred and threescore and five [shekels], after the shekel of the sanctuary: [5 sheckels per person]  (51)  And Moses gave the money of them that were redeemed unto Aaron and to his sons, according to the word of the LORD, as the LORD commanded Moses.

The firstborn of God are redeemed now by the blood of Jesus Christ

1 Peter 1:18-21  Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, [as] silver and gold, from your vain conversation [received] by tradition from your fathers;  (19)  But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:  (20)  Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,  (21)  Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

Jesus redeems us to be a peculiar people to Him

Titus 2:14  Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

Adoption as sons

Heir of God through Chirst

Galatians 4:5-7  To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.  (6)  And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.  (7)  Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

The Spirit of God dwells in us

God shall raise us from the dead

Those lead by the Spirit of God are the sons of God

Romans 8:4-14  That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.  (5)  For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.  (6)  For to be carnally minded [is] death; but to be spiritually minded [is] life and peace.  (7)  Because the carnal mind [is] enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.  (8)  So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.  (9)  But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.  (10)  And if Christ [be] in you, the body [is] dead because of sin; but the Spirit [is] life because of righteousness.  (11)  But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.  (12)  Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.  (13)  For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.  (14)  For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

We are the children of God

Rom 8:16  The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

Jesus the firstborn among many brethren

Rom 8:29  For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate [to be] conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Paul grieves for Israel

Romans 9:2-5  That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.  (3)  For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:  (4)  Who are Israelites; to whom [pertaineth] the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service [of God], and the promises;  (5)  Whose [are] the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ [came], who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.

Paul tells us who are called Israel

The children of the promise

Romans 9:6-8  Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they [are] not all Israel, which are of Israel:  (7)  Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, [are they] all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.  (8)  That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these [are] not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.

The word of promise

Romans 9:9-10  For this [is] the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sara shall have a son.  (10)  And not only [this]; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, [even] by our father Isaac;

Gentiles who are called shall also be the children of God

Romans 9:24-26  Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles (25)  As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved.  (26)  And it shall come to pass, [that] in the place where it was said unto them, Ye [are] not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.

The Gentiles have attained righteousness by faith

Romans 9:30-33  What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.  (31)  But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.  (32)  Wherefore? Because [they sought it] not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;  (33)  As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

Israel ignorant of God's righteousness

Christ is the righteousness of God

Romans 10:1-4  Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.  (2)  For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.  (3)  For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.  (4)  For Christ [is] the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

How to be saved

Romans 10:8-13  But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, [even] in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;  (9)  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  (10)  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.  (11)  For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.  (12)  For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.  (13)  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Many do not believe

Rom 10:16  But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?

How faith comes

Rom 10:17  So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

God will provoke Israel to jealousy by calling the Gentiles

Romans 10:19-21  But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by [them that are] no people, [and] by a foolish nation I will anger you.  (20)  But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.  (21)  But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.

God has not cast away Israel

Romans 11:1-5  I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, [of] the tribe of Benjamin.  (2)  God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying,  (3)  Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.  (4)  But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to [the image of] Baal.  (5)  Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

The election has obtained the promises of the firstborn

Romans 11:7-8  What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded  (8)  (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day.

The fall of Israel is the salvation to the Gentiles to provoke Israel to jealousy

Romans 11:10-13  Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, and bow down their back alway.  (11)  I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but [rather] through their fall salvation [is come] unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.  (12)  Now if the fall of them [be] the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fulness?  (13)  For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:

Romans 11:15-16  For if the casting away of them [be] the reconciling of the world, what [shall] the receiving [of them be], but life from the dead?  (16)  For if the firstfruit [be] holy, the lump [is] also [holy]: and if the root [be] holy, so [are] the branches.

Romans 11:25-28  For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.  (26)  And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:  (27)  For this [is] my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.  (28)  As concerning the gospel, [they are] enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, [they are] beloved for the fathers' sakes.

Rom 11:29  For the gifts and calling of God [are] without repentance.

Romans 11:30-32  For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:  (31)  Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.  (32)  For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.

Romans 12:1-2  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service.  (2)  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Note:  You and I have been redeemed by Jesus Christ to be the firstborn among many to be Levites for the reasonalbe service to God

Look at this scripture again:

Numbers 3:6-15  Bring the tribe of Levi near, and present them before Aaron the priest, that they may minister unto him.  (7)  And they shall keep his charge, and the charge of the whole congregation before the tabernacle of the congregation, to do the service of the tabernacle.  (8)  And they shall keep all the instruments of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the children of Israel, to do the service of the tabernacle.  (9)  And thou shalt give the Levites unto Aaron and to his sons: they [are] wholly given unto him out of the children of Israel.  (10)  And thou shalt appoint Aaron and his sons, and they shall wait on their priest's office:

If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared. I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope. My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning. Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption. And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.
(Psa 130:3-8)

Revelation 5:9-10  And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;  (10)  And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

Isa 43:1-11 KJV But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called [thee] by thy name; thou [art] mine. (2) When thou passest through the waters, I [will be] with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. (3) For I [am] the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt [for] thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee. (4) Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life. (5) Fear not: for I [am] with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west; (6) I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth; (7) [Even] every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him. (8) Bring forth the blind people that have eyes, and the deaf that have ears. (9) Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled: who among them can declare this, and shew us former things? let them bring forth their witnesses, that they may be justified: or let them hear, and say, [It is] truth. (10) Ye [are] my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I [am] he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. (11) I, [even] I, [am] the LORD; and beside me [there is] no saviour.

Isaiah 43:14-15  Thus saith the LORD, your redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; For your sake I have sent to Babylon, and have brought down all their nobles, and the Chaldeans, whose cry is in the ships.   15   I am the LORD, your Holy One, the creator of Israel, your King.

Isaiah 43:18-21  Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.   19   Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.   20   The beast of the field shall honour me, the dragons and the owls: because I give waters in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, my chosen.   21   This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise.

Isaiah 43:22-24  But thou hast not called upon me, O Jacob; but thou hast been weary of me, O Israel.   23   Thou hast not brought me the small cattle of thy burnt offerings; neither hast thou honoured me with thy sacrifices. I have not caused thee to serve with an offering, nor wearied thee with incense.   24   Thou hast bought me no sweet cane with money, neither hast thou filled me with the fat of thy sacrifices: but thou hast made me to serve with thy sins, thou hast wearied me with thine iniquities.

Isaiah 43:25-28  I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.   26   Put me in remembrance: let us plead together: declare thou, that thou mayest be justified.   27   Thy first father hath sinned, and thy teachers have transgressed against me.   28   Therefore I have profaned the princes of the sanctuary, and have given Jacob to the curse, and Israel to reproaches.

My conclusion:  In view that God has said that all the firstborn of man and beast are His and yet He redeemed all of Israel (not just the firstborn) God must therefore, according to His word, pay a price to redeem the part of Israel (the other 90% that were not firstborn of man and beast) that belonged to the nation of Egypt (and also Ethiopia and Seba).  God therefore purchased the balance of Israel that were not firstborn and did so by slaying all the firstborn (which are His also) in Egypt (and Ethiopia and Seba). God paid the price to redeem the balance of Israel (the other 90% of the people and animals)  which were not His, but belonged to the nation of Egypt (and Ethiopia and Seba).

Study of the word ransom

Psalms 49:6-9  They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;   7   None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:   8   (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)   9   That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption.  Note:  read all of Psalms 49, also, this should be a lead in to redemption.

Exodus 30:11-16  And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,   12   When thou takest the sum of the children of Israel after their number, then shall they give every man a ransom for his soul unto the LORD, when thou numberest them; that there be no plague among them, when thou numberest them.   13   This they shall give, every one that passeth among them that are numbered, half a shekel after the shekel of the sanctuary: (a shekel is twenty gerahs:) an half shekel shall be the offering of the LORD.   14   Every one that passeth among them that are numbered, from twenty years old and above, shall give an offering unto the LORD.   15   The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than half a shekel, when they give an offering unto the LORD, to make an atonement for your souls.   16   And thou shalt take the atonement money of the children of Israel, and shalt appoint it for the service of the tabernacle of the congregation; that it may be a memorial unto the children of Israel before the LORD, to make an atonement for your souls.

Pro 21:18  The wicked shall be a ransom for the righteous, and the transgressor for the upright.

Mat 20:28  Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

Mar 10:45  For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

1 Timothy 2:3-6  For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;   4   Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.   5   For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;   6   Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

Additional Scriptures to redemption Hos 3:1-3 Then said the LORD unto me, Go yet, love a woman beloved of her friend, yet an adulteress, according to the love of the LORD toward the children of Israel, who look to other gods, and love flagons of wine. (2) So I bought her to me for fifteen pieces of silver, and for an homer of barley, and an half homer of barley: (3) And I said unto her, Thou shalt abide for me many days; thou shalt not play the harlot, and thou shalt not be for another man: so will I also be for thee.
