Mustard Seed - January/February 2004
Hello Brethren,
I promise not to mention the old year out and the new year in. We have heard enough about that, haven't we? But I do have a quote that is over two-hundred years old. This quote was written by professor Alexander Tyler. "The average age of the world's greatest civilization has been two hundred years. These nations have progressed through these sequences: from bondage to spiritual faith, from spiritual faith to great courage, from great courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy , from apathy to dependency, form dependency back again to bondage." Where would you say we, USA, are today?
As you read professor Tyler's observations, at what sequence of events does "compromise" began. I think compromise comes in through selfishness and complacency, whether we look at it on a national or individual basis, compromise is everywhere. To be uncompromising, you must be courageous, wouldn't you say?
Study through the book of Daniel, you will see some "Uncompromising men," read the first chapter of Daniel. Daniel 1:8, "Daniel purposed in his heart," this book talks about four young men that were raised to some of the highest positions they could attain to in a world ruling empire, they had to be uncompromising morally and spiritually. When you read this book, the prophecies can override the individual if you are not careful. Any mother or father would love to have children with the uncompromising character of Daniel, Shad-rach, Meshach and Abednego. They were in the sequence of spiritual faith and courage. They gave the credit to the Most High God. When they spoke, they trusted His position as their sustainer in all circumstances. These are examples of living faith. (Faith with works) James 2: 17-26.
Put a challenge before yourself, "stop compromising," then watch the results in your life and enjoy the peace of God, which will fill your life.
In Christ,
John Shavers
