Laxity in The Feast of Tabernacles
Some Questions And Answers
Mustard Seed - January/February 2004
As I was looking through a "religious" magazine some time ago, there was a page that caught my eye. There were two serious questions that were asked by a young person. I read their answers, then I thought, "how would I answer these two questions?"
Q. Can the Bible be used today; how can it effect my life in the modern world we life in:
The Bible is not outdated. In order to use its teachings, you must want to apply them. As you read or hear the word of God being read, remember you are to follow the instructions that are given, not because of another person. You must take it personally. The Bible tells us that we are to become skillful in using the word of God (Heb. 5:14). That skill comes through wanting to use it, practicing it daily and being responsible to God at all times. Through these steps the words of God will become a part of you and your every day life is being affected by them.
Q. IS SIN SO SINFUL?
In society today it has become especially difficult to "maintain a sense of how sinful is sin." To even mention that something is sinful in a serious tone of voice you may get a look disbelief from most people. Sin has become institutionalized in our society. Read I John 3:4-- "Sin Is The Transgression Of The Law." Every time someone sins, somebody suffers. Sin was so sinful that Jesus Christ had to give up his life in order that atonement could be made between man and God.
Sometimes we want to make the old excuse: "WELL I HAVE TO HAVE SOME VICES," --if that vice is a sin --that's making room for more sin. There is only one thing that brought death into the world--SIN. The problem that we are experiencing today, mistrust, immoral lives, etc. is a result of that three-letter-word, SIN has caused them all. Look at your everyday life; it is a defensive life isn't it? We are in a never ending posture of protecting ourselves from sins of others, and against ourselves. We must keep our shield up, and be on guard all times, trying not to commit them ourselves. SIN IS SINFUL. "For whosoever commit sin transgresses also the law, for sin is the transgression of the law" (1John 3:4). "For you are bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's (1 Cor. 7:20).
