Mustard Seed -  May/June  2004

Hello Brethren,

How important are numbers to you? Whatever your answer may be, your life is controlled by numbers.  Your age, height, or weight are numbers. The reason I asked this question is because I heard a preacher say that numerology is occultic, that statement can be true if a person becomes superstitious of numbers.  We cannot get away from numbers whether we are Christian or non-christian.

Consider the following numbers, 7, 12, 3, 40 and 50. Out of this we have, seven days per week, twelve apostles, three days and three nights Christ was in the grave, forty days Christ appeared after His resurrection, fifty days from the wavesheaf offering to Pentecost.  All of these numbers are a dimension of time given to us to remind us of God’s plan for everyone that has lived, is living and will live.

We are in the count down to Pentecost, which is the birthday of the New Testament Church. We should aim for accuracy as to the correct date and emphasis on the meaning of Pentecost, not on the number fifty. The meaning of Pentecost has an eternal purpose, the number is just a manner of measuring when to observe the day.

The scriptures do not tell why certain numbers are used, that is the prerogative of our God. Whether we look at our earthly father or heavenly Father, there are certain questions that only they know the answers to.

When you observe Pentecost listen for the meaning of why there is a church and what has the church done to this world by the power of the Holy Spirit.

In Christ,
