Take Heed That You Be Not Deceived
Letter From The Editor
Mustard Seed - November/December 2003
Hello Brethren,
The book of Genesis talks about the beginning, the creation of the heaven, earth, man, etc. Genesis points outs the beginning of sin and problems upon man.
We could label the book of Acts as the beginning of the Church. As a body, we are able to see all of the good of the Church just as we can see the "good" in Genesis. In the beginning, then came the deceiving of Eve by the serpent, followed by Cain's murder of Abel, followed by the earth having evil prevailing everywhere in all walks of life.
The book of Acts, the beginning of the Church that all Saints are members of today, There are three (3) prominent events in the Church's beginning, they are as follows:
Is in Acts 4: persecution from the outside.
Acts 5: self-promotion, this was within the Church.
"Discrimination," this was within the Church also. This helps us to see that two of the three prominent events were within the Church. The love and sharing within the Church was soiled when some tried to take advantage of the Saints by promoting their want and ideas.
The events that may come upon us from the outside, we may not be able to prevent or stop, but those from within, (Acts 5 & 6) we can prevent them from occurring. Each person will have to examine themselves (Jas. 2:1-4) and control (Gal. 5:23) themselves in these areas. We simply must stay close to God and keep clean within the Church.
I thought this would make a good discussion topic as we compare the book of Genesis, with the book of Acts.
In Christ,
John Shavers
