Mustard Seed - September/October 2002
The temperature is dropping and fall is approaching very rapidly, thanks to our heavenly father for the seasons and the beauty of each one of them. Each season brings the return of our Savior, Jesus Christ closer and shortens the time we have to carry out our responsibilities as ambassadors of the kingdom.
In a few short weeks, hundreds of us will be meeting together in various places to observe the Feast of Tabernacles. God instituted these days, giving them to our ancient forefathers to keep his true people in mind of His great plan He is working out here below. Repetition is a good way to " remember not to forget."
The annual Sabbaths and Feast Days God gave his people, were commanded and intended to be kept forever (Lev. 23:2131,41. ) Christ told his disciples: "Go ye up unto this Feast" (John. 7:8.) He was speaking of the Feast of Tabernacles. Soon after, Christ himself came up to the Feast and took part in it, setting us an example in observing it, and the Apostles continued keeping those days, and even commanded Gentile converts to keep these days of God. (1 Cor. 5:8) Acts 18:21 records Paul as saying "I must by all means keep this coming Feast in Jerusalem." Luke also records Paul's active awareness of another Holy Day when he notes, "much time had been spent, and sailing was now dangerous because the Fast was already over" (Acts 27:9). Some of the well-known commentaries admits that "the Fast" here refers to the Day of Atonement, first commanded in Lev. 23:27.
[t was Christ's custom to observe the Holy Days (John 5:1) and his true people will follow his command. Years later, Jude referred to heretics in his day as "spots in your love Feast, while they Feast with you. (Jude 12). These Feast days are called by God as " My Sabbaths. Holy unto the Lord." We should expect to see excitement and anticipation to pick up in the month of September. Let's look forward to observing these annual Holydays and rejoice!
