Handle With Care
Mustard Seed - May/June 2006
Light bulb - n. a bulb shaped part of glass, of a lamp which encloses the filament, which when turned on gives light.
Light bulbs, we use them every day in our homes, jobs, and various places. Their history goes back a while. The commercial production of them started in 1879, prior to that date, Thomas Edison had the hardest time inventing one. His problem was finding the right filament to put inside the bulb, with time through his “invention factory ”he found the solution to their problem. Since those humble beginnings the industry has skyrocketed .
Today there are many companies which manufacture light bulbs in many sizes, shapes and wattages. We (as the Church of God) are in a similar situation. We are in the midst of the greatest ”light bulb production company” in the world, it’s us! But there is one problem, no—God does not have a problem similar to that of Thomas Edison, that he could not find the proper filament to put inside the “bulb,” that he has solved with his truth. ‘THE ENTRANCE OF THY WORDS GIVE LIGHT.” …(Ps.119:130). The “production line “of this “company” has been running since 30 A.D., but in the case of the past and present Churches of God there has been a problem. Being that these "bulbs” can think and speak, there has been problems. It’s when we are judgmental and critical of each other! In the epistle of James, it says, “but if ye have bitter envyings and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth” (James. 3:14}
So as “light bulbs” on the “production line” cannot speak, judge, and criticize against one another that is like saying you are of a lower wattage. We must be very careful not to judge and condemn a work which the owner and designer is doing. Maybe the “bulb” is a three-way” bulb,” God is the one who knows the heart of each individual (Acts. 1:24). Each one of us is like a bulb (Mt. 5:14). As lights we must handle each other with the utmost care, “beloved, let us love one another” (I John 4:7).
The next time that you have a bulb in your hand, stop and think how careful you are being with it, so must we be with one another!
We are called the children of the light (Eph. 5:8). We are created in the image of God., we are to live according to his way as “lights.” Soon we will be “ turned on” forever I Cor. 15:52.
So let’s remember - Don’t try to see what “wattage” is on your brother’s head as if he has a number on top of it - that is God’s secret!
