Atonement
Mustard Seed - September/October 2007
Fast for me ---- In the book of Esther chapter 4, Esther makes a request: verse 16, “fast for me, ….I also and my maidens will fast likewise.”
This is the only place in scripture where a person asked someone to “fast for me” and told them how, “neither eat nor drink.” This was for a specific purpose in Esther’s life and the lives of others.
There is a Feast day in which God tell us to fast, Leviticus 23:32. We need to prepare for this day, or it may become just a day of endurance for us.
Fast With A Purpose
We can use the day of Atonement to fast for someone. We will hear about what the High Priest did in the nation of Israel on that day, we will hear about what the High Priest (Melchizedek) is doing for us today, all of these acts are for others, and we can fast for someone on that day also. Let’s remember that JUBLIEE was on the day of Atonement.
Leviticus 25:9: “then shall you cause the trumpet of JUBLILEE to sound on the tenth of the seventh month, in the day of atonement shall you make the trumpet sound throughout all your land.” By fasting for some one you may have part in setting some one free from something that has held them in bondage for years. We will be thinking about some one else's needs rather than our own discomfort. The object is to help some one else in need, read the parable of the intercession efforts in Luke 11: 5-8 notice verse 6 “for a friend of mine in his journey is come to me and I have nothing to set before him.” Are there people that we cannot help in our own power or abilities? Fast for them and take that need before God on the day of Atonement, and see if God will not give the bread that is needed. Let’s look at David’s example:
In psalms 35:13, David said “But as for me when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth, I humbled my soul with fasting, and my prayer returned into mine own bosom.” When we fast for others there is a great return to us, in this act of giving up your life for a person. John 15:13, “greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” When we cut off nutrition to our bodies, we began to die.
How To Fast
Jesus Christ said, Matt. 6:16: “moreover when you fast ---, he goes on to say in verse 18 that you appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy father which is in secret, and your father, which seeth in secret shall reward you openly. From this principle on fasting, on this special day of atonement, DO NOT tell the person, that you are fasting for, keep that a secret between you and your Heavenly Father. The reward to you, may be a change in that person’s direction, purpose and outlook, maybe a change in their well being (vitality). Who knows what God may do, your reward is seeing God work in that person’s life.
Dedicate this Day of Atonement to someone (brother, sister, friend, or enemy). Matt 5:44, make the Day of Atonement, a day of releasing (JUBLILEE) for someone in bondage.
Fast for someone on the Day of Atonement.
