Mustard Seed - September/October 2007
Hello Brethren,
What should we get out of God’s Feasts? Sometimes we may plan on what we are going to do (i.e. Sing, visit historical sites, etc.). But let’s think about what am I going to get out of feast attendance?
In the book of Isaiah chapter 55, verses 10-11; “ for as the rain cometh down and the snow from heaven and return not there, but waters the earth, and make it bring forth and bud --- verse 11 so shall my word be that goes forth out of my mouth. It shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper…” That is shown through Jesus’ ministry and through the apostles.
In the book of Acts chapter 2 verse 37 “… now when they heard this, they were pricked in their hearts. That’s what God does with his word --- he compares his word to rain and snow. Notice also Jeremiah 23:29 “...Is not my word like as a fire? Saith the Lord; and like a hammer ---? In the book of Hebrews chapter 4 verses 12… “ for the word of God is quick, and sharper than any two-edged sword…” The word of God is compared to a sword. Ephesians 6:17 “…the sword of the spirit which is the word of God.
When we look at what God compares his word to: rain, snow, fire, hammer and a sword , there will be a reaction when the word hits or touches us. While we are at the feast and once we return home, we should watch and see what we got out of our feast attendance.
Let’s take notice of the effect of feast attendance in the book of Nehemiah 9:1-3 take notice to verse 3 “and they stood up in their place, and read in the book of the law of the Lord their God...”. They still had a hunger for the word of God and a great desire to align their lives with God’s purpose for them. This is similar to what occurred in the book of Acts, chapter 2 verse 37: “now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart (cut to the heart), and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, men and brethren, what shall we do?”
As you are in the process of making your festival plans, ask yourself: what am I going to get out of the feast this year?
In Christ service,
