The Hebrew Calendar

The Hebrew Calendar Within

The Scriptures

Mustard Seed -  January/February 2012

The scriptural proof of our calendar is found in Genesis chapters seven and eight in the account of Noah and the flood.  God has woven a verifiable calendar within these two chapters that point to a calendar that is identical to today.  The name of this calendar has been changed by the current day people of God from simply the Hebrew Calendar to the Calculated Hebrew Calendar in an effort to distinguish it from all other calendar forms [emphasis mine].

In order for us to acquire an unquestionable proof that these scriptures clarify the question of a calendar in the bible we must account for every day that is numbered in the Genesis account of the flood by marking these days off on a calendar.   On our website (www.cognm.org) I copied and placed a Hebrew Calendar.  I began to count off each day listed in Genesis seven and eight.   When I was done counting these days on this calendar and comparing them with the Genesis account of the flood it was revealed to us by God that His calendar existed from the beginning (at least from the flood) without change unto this day.

In the following paragraphs I will give you an abbreviated version of the paper we have posted on our website.  I would encourage you to visit the complete work posted there to make your own determination of this account.

We begin counting in Genesis 7:11-12.  I will use the King James Version (KJV) unless otherwise noted.   “In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.  And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.

The first sets of numbers we count are the days from the 1st day of Nisan to the 17th day of the second month (Iyar).  This equals 46.  The second set of numbers to add to our count is the 40 days and nights of rain.  These two numbers equal 86 and correspond to 27th day of the 3rd month (Syvan).

Our next scriptural reference is Genesis 7:24:  And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days.”  Eighty Six (86) days plus one hundred fifty (150) days the waters prevailed upon the earth equal 236 days.  In the 600th year of Noah’s life this would be 29th day of the eighth month (Heshvan).

Our next reference in the bible is Genesis 8:3: ”And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated.”  We now add 150 days the waters abated from off the earth to our last count of 236 days and we get 386 days which is the 1st day of the 1st month (Nisan) of the 601st year of Noah’s life.

So, from the 1st day of the 1st month of the 600th year of Noah’s life to and including the 1st day of the 1st month of the 601st year of Noah’s life is 386 days.  This means there were 385 days in the 600th year since we must subtract 1 day for the 1st day of the 1st month of the 601st year.  I have placed a chart below of our count.

385

Days in year 600 of Noah's life

The fact that there are 385 days in the year known as the 600th year of Noah's life could only mean that this year was both a leap year and a full year.  No other calendar system has a year of 385 days except the Hebrew Calendar (Calculated Hebrew Calendar also referred to as the postponements)

All other non-Hebrew Calendars (in use by the people of God who are opposed to using the Calculated Hebrew Calendar) in use will only have a 354 day year or a 384 day year in a leap year.  The Hebrew Calendar (Calculated Hebrew Calendar) will have years with 6 possibilities.  The six possibilities are 353, 354, 355, 383, 384 and 385.

The 600th year of Noah’s life was a full year and a leap year (13 months).  When a year is both you will all have 8 months of 30 days (240) and 5 months of 29 days (145).  In this year all the months were 30 days except for the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 10th, and 13th months which had 29 days.  Add these numbers and we have 385 days.   When we reconcile this to the bible we have in both calculations 385 days.

Since the biblical year we refer to as the 600th year of Noah's life has 385 days it can only mean that the Hebrew Calendar (Calculated Hebrew Calendar) was in use at the time of the flood.

A more complete description of the calendar within the account of Noah’s flood along with actual calendar pages with each page accounted for is published on our website at www.cognm.org
